A BURNED OUT LADY
After the long trail drive, the
cowboys were ready for some fun. Often,
they would spend all they had earned
letting off steam. Abilene and other rail
heads were well suited to provide the
entertainment to help the cowboy get
relief from his months of hard work and
absence of feminine company. For as many
days as their funds would allow, they
would let off the pent up steam before
returning to the hard work as a cowboy.
Of course, the ladies played a big part
in helping relieve the men of their hard
earned pay. While many of these women may
have enjoyed the attention they got, some
became hallow shells from that kind of
life. Some went on to become wives of
respectable men and the men seemed to not
care about their past.
